Sunday reflection 18 April 2021

Dear friends,

Welcome to another service in this Easter season.

As restrictions ease across Scotland Christians across the country and further afield are encouraged to join together in prayer and reflection at 7pm. We will be on our Zoom service but, if you cannot manage our service, please try and participate in the prayer time.

As Dr Fair, the Moderator reminds the Church, ‘There are some things, that for a period of time eventually have a natural conclusion – like clapping for carers – but prayer is not one of them.’ The Apostle Paul encourages us ‘to pray without ceasing and Jesus often told parables where persistence in prayer is laudable.

Included at the end of these intimations is the Prayer you should read: to say in unison with those near and far, Remember in your prayers, after the funeral service on Saturday, Her Majesty the Queen and the Royal Family too.

I will be incapacitated for a few days at the beginning of the week, so WD40 will return in the Kingsborough Gardens Sanctuary on Wednesday 28th April at 2pm. On Sunday the 9th of May we are hoping to do something a little different to mark the excellent work of Christian Aids 75 years of service. Christian Aid has always been supported superbly in our congregation so please continue to seek out ways of keeping the good work to the forefront of many people’s minds. Once again we will miss out on our Christian Plant Sale – so there is a lot of making up to dol!

The Newsletter articles are due today – so send them to Carol and Jill and make our Newsletter, like our Magazine, a good read over a cup of tea.

Here is the Moderator’s Prayer:

Living God,
Your word to us through the Risen Lord is:
Peace be with you.
Amidst the disturbance of the times,
may we hear your word and embrace the peace you offer.
Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.

Living God,
Your word to us through the Risen Lord is:
Peace be with you.
When the foundations are shaken and the certainties no longer sure,
may you speak to us in the still small voice of calm.
Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.

Living God,
Your word to us through the Risen Lord is:
Peace be with you.
When we are fearful and troubled,
may you speak to the depths of our fears and still our troubled hearts.
Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.

Living God,
Your word to us through the Risen Lord is:
Peace be with you.
As we hear his voice,
may we reach out to the One whose presence is renewed and revealed
before us.
Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.

Living God,
Your word to us through the Risen Lord is:
Peace be with you.
As we experience the renewal of life within our family and community,
may we bear witness to your abiding presence among us.
Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.

Every blessing to you all this Easter season,
George
