CHURCH INFORMATION

Life events: Baptisms | Marriages | Funerals

At Broomhill Hyndland Parish Church, we journey through life’s most important moments — celebrating in joy and standing alongside in times of sorrow.

As part of the Church of Scotland, we are privileged to walk alongside individuals and families through these important occasions with care, dignity and compassion.

Whether you are a regular member of the congregation or simply live within our parish, please get in touch – we would be glad to speak with you.

Baptisms (Christenings)

Baptism marks the beginning of a person’s journey of faith within the Church family. It is a celebration of God’s love and a commitment to nurture faith in the years ahead.

In the Church of Scotland:

  • Baptism may be for children or adults
  • Parents (and godparents, where chosen) make promises to support a child in the Christian faith
  • The congregation promises to encourage and pray for the family

Baptisms normally take place during a Sunday morning service, allowing the church family to share in the celebration.

If you are considering baptism for your child — or for yourself — we would be delighted to arrange a conversation with the minister to talk through what it means and how the service works.

Marriages

A wedding is a joyful and sacred occasion. In a Church of Scotland service, a couple make their vows before God, in the presence of family and friends, asking for His blessing on their life together.

We are pleased to discuss marriage services for:

  • Members of the congregation
  • Those with a connection to the parish
  • Couples seeking a Christian wedding ceremony

The minister will meet with you in advance to plan a service that reflects both the Christian understanding of marriage and your own personal journey together.

Our church building provides a beautiful and peaceful setting for a wedding ceremony, and we will do all we can to ensure the day is meaningful and memorable.

Funerals

In times of loss, the Church is here to offer comfort, support and hope.

A Christian funeral service:

  • Gives thanks for the life of the person who has died
  • Commends them into God’s loving care
  • Offers comfort and reassurance to family and friends

Funerals may take place in the church or at a crematorium or graveside. The minister will meet with the family to help plan a service that reflects the life of their loved one with dignity and sensitivity.

If you require pastoral support following a bereavement, please do not hesitate to contact us.
