CHURCH INFORMATION
Our Christian Faith and Church of Scotland Identity
At Broomhill Hyndland Parish Church, everything we do is rooted in our Christian Faith and our desire to follow the teachings and example of Jesus Christ.
We seek to express that faith not only in worship on a Sunday, but in practical care, friendship and service throughout the week — within our congregation and across the wider community in the west of Glasgow.
We are part of the wider family of the Church of Scotland, whose story stretches back to the earliest days of Christianity in Scotland and was shaped significantly by the Reformation of 1560 under leaders such as John Knox.
As a Presbyterian Church in the Reformed tradition, we recognise no head of the Church other than God. Leadership is shared – through ministers, elders and members – reflecting our belief that all are called to serve and contribute.
Our Role in the Community
As a parish church, we are here for everyone who lives within our parish, whether or not they attend regularly.
Churches like ours continue to play an important role in communities across Scotland – offering:
• Pastoral care in times of joy, uncertainty or loss
• Support for individuals and families
• Activities for children, young people and older members
• Opportunities for friendship, volunteering and service
• A welcoming space at the heart of the neighbourhood
Following Christ’s example, we believe caring for one another is central to our calling.
How We Worship
Worship is at the heart of our life together and is open to all — regardless of age, background or stage of faith.
Services are normally led by our minister, with elders, readers and members of the congregation also taking part. Preaching is central: we listen to readings from the Bible and reflect on how its message speaks into modern life.
Music is an important part of our worship and can take many forms, from traditional hymns to contemporary pieces. We also make use of modern technology where helpful, while remaining rooted in the rich traditions of the Church.
Beyond Sunday worship, congregational life includes Bible study, children and youth activities, fellowship groups, community events and opportunities for learning and discussion.
Holy Communion
Holy Communion (also known as the Lord’s Supper) is celebrated regularly and is open to all who love the Lord Jesus Christ.
It is a time of remembrance, thanksgiving and renewal, shared together as part of Christ’s Church.
The Five Marks of Mission
The Church of Scotland has adopted the Five Marks of Mission as a framework for living out our faith in the 21st century. These encourage every congregation to:
• Proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ
• Teach, baptise and nurture believers
• Respond to human need with loving service
• Challenge injustice and pursue peace and reconciliation
• Care for creation and protect the life of the earth
At Broomhill Hyndland Parish Church, we seek to reflect these priorities in ways that are meaningful within our own community – building a welcoming, supportive and Christ-centred church family.
If you would like to find out more about our faith, our worship, or the wider work of the Church, we would be delighted to welcome you in person or answer any questions you may have.
